Chicago White Sox at Baltimore Orioles

The Chicago White Sox (56-82, 24-48, 57-72 O/U) would like to play the spoiler role in the last month of the baseball season. Unfortunately, they are playing teams with more incentive.

Key Betting Trends

Chicago White Sox are:

  • 4-9 last 13 matchups on the under bet in Baltimore.
  • 7-21-2 last 30 matchups on the under bet vs. a right-handed starter
  • 6-13 last 19 matchups on the under bet in Quintana’s last 7 road starts with a winning record

Baltimore is:

  • 5-12-1 last 18 matchups on the under bet vs. American League Central
  • 6-18-2 last 26 matchups on the under bet after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game

Probable Pitchers

(L) Jose Quintana (7-5, 3.69 ERA) vs. (R) Miguel Gonzalez (8-7, 4.11 ERA) Quintana gave up a run and two hits to the Yankees in an inning before a rain delay on Monday and never came back out. So he’s going on short rest but never threw that many pitches. He has allowed three runs or fewer in 10 of his last 11 starts. Gonzalez is 5-2 with a 4.02 ERA in 11 home games and is coming off his worst start of the season. He did pitch in relief in his previous two appearances so that may have thrown him off his rhythm.

Key injuries

Chicago White Sox:

  • C Tyler Flowers (shoulder) is out for the season.

Detroit:

  • SP Jason Hammel (arm) is questionable.

Quintana is tough on the Orioles

The White Sox are simply playing for next season. They’ve lost six straight games and are heading towards 100 losses if they continue to play this poorly. Their pitching staff has been the one saving grace for the White Sox and while Baltimore will not see ace lefty Chris Sale, Quintana is another pitcher that seems to give them trouble. He shut them out on July 4, allowing no runs and struck out 11 in seven innings. The Orioles also struggle against left-handers as they are hitting just .246 as a team and scoring nearly a run less than they do against right-handers. The White Sox are only averaging 3.77 runs per game and hitting .248 as a team. Expect a very small crowd in Baltimore tonight with the Ravens opening up in Denver on Thursday night football. Also expect a low-scoring, dull game.
